MUT Founder’s Annual Lecture 2026 | Reflecting on Legacy, Leadership & the Future
Mangosuthu University of Technology successfully hosted the 2026 Founder’s Annual Lecture on Saturday, 3 October at the Durban International Convention Centre.
The event honoured the legacy of MUT Founder Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi while creating a platform for meaningful dialogue around the future of higher education and the changing world of work.
The keynote address, “Towards 2030: MUT’s Shared Vision for South Africa’s Higher Education Contribution to the Global World of Work,” was delivered by Mr Zwelakhe Mnguni, Co-Founder and Chief Investment Officer of Benguela Global Fund Managers.
The programme featured contributions from Professor Rushiella Songca, Vice-Chancellor and Principal; Dr Mosidi Makgae, Chairperson of Council; Professor Mncedisi Maphalala, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Research, Innovation and Engagement; Professor Marcus Ramogale, Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Teaching & Learning; and Professor Bhekisipho Twala, Interim Deputy Vice-Chancellor: Resources and Planning.
Reflections on the keynote were provided by Dr Pali Lehohla, former Statistician-General of South Africa; Professor Ntebogeng Mokgalaka-Fleischmann, Acting DVC: Teaching, Learning and Technology at Tshwane University of Technology; and **Professor Brian Itumeleng Nakedi, Commissioner at the Public Service Commission, Free State Province.
The Founder’s legacy was further reflected upon by His Royal Highness Prince Zuzifa Buthelezi, Inkosi of the Buthelezi Clan, while Mr Sandile Zungu, Founder and CEO of Zungu Investments Company, delivered the closing remarks.
The lecture reaffirmed MUT’s commitment to academic excellence, innovation, ethical leadership, inclusive development and preparing students for the future world of work, in line with the University’s IGNITE 2030 Strategy.
